1967 GRAND PRIX

1967 Pontiac Grand Prix
At the top of the Pontiac line-up in 1967, there were only 5856 Grand Prix convertibles made, making it one of the rarest of GM's full size convertibles. Finished in a recent repaint in the original Montreux Blue, this glamorous example features a fully reupholstered interior in the factory correct Blue Morrokide with Strato bucket seats, plus almost every option offered for 1967. Offered for sale by a private owner in Palm Springs, California.
A Spectacular and Rare Convertible
Pontiac produced a Grand Prix convertible only in 1967, and it was the last of their full size luxury sports cars before downsizing in 1969. This glamorous example is finished in Montreux Blue with a dark blue Morrokide bucket seat interior, and is equipped with almost every option offered. In current possession for 8 years in Palm Springs California, it has been featured in numerous photo shoots, magazines, and car shows. Having gone through an extensive restoration to totally stock appearance, it is ready for your adventures in the sun! Offered by a private seller and national/international shipping can be arranged.

ABOUT
Details and Features
The Grand Prix convertible was the top-of-the-line Pontiac for 1967, and the last of their executive full-size sports cars (the Grand Prix was down-sized for 1969). Built on the Catalina body, it featured Pontiac's largest engines—a 400 c.i V8 with 350hp as standard equipment (a 428 c.i. V8 making 360-376hp was optional). A unique front end with vacuum-actuated hidden headlights and 3-slot parking lights was a Grand Prix exclusive. That motif was repeated in the rear with slotted taillights—a look shared with Pontiac's other sporty cars, the GTO and Firebird.
An unusual detail is that the name Pontiac did not appear anywhere on the car (discrete Pontiac Motor Division lettering does appear on the center hub caps and steering wheel medallion). Grand Prix lettering appears on both rear fenders and on the dash, and GP lettering on the grille, trunk, and lower chrome body moldings. This was Pontiac's way of separating the Grand Prix into its own special line.
This Grand Prix has gone through extensive reconditioning and frame-on restoration to totally stock appearance, both during the current owner's 8 years and with previous owners since it was originally delivered to Turnpike Pontiac in Westport CT, December 1966. Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) documentation including a reproduction of the original window sticker goes with the car. It currently shows 41,500 miles, but true mileage is unknown. Approx. 8500 miles were added under current ownership. It spent time in Illinois and Florida, and the last 8 years in Palm Springs, California, where it has never seen rain (or snow!) while here.
EXTERIOR
All body panels are straight and smooth. Under previous ownership, the car was repainted in the original Montreux Blue. The paint is still lustrous and the clear coat is uninterrupted. There are some minor paint flaws and small cracks, see photos. The unique Pontiac 8-lug wheels are a rare and much desired accessory. The whitewall tires are from 2016. The windshield and door glass is clear and free of chips. The convertible top was replaced under previous ownership, and all the window rubber was replaced by the current owner. There are some minor gaps when the windows are closed, may need adjustment. The top goes up and down smoothly. There is a reproduction convertible boot cover in the correct blue to match the interior.
INTERIOR
The interior was fully restored to stock factory appearance. During current ownership, the Strato Bucket seats and door cards were reupholstered in the factory blue expanded Morrokide (from SMS Fabrics). Original style headrests were added, an optional feature in 1967. New correct GM seat belts in matching blue were fitted for 5 passengers with retractors in the front seats, and correct new carpeting was installed with matching floor mats. The burlwood dash appliques were redone, the optional custom gauge cluster (includes oil pressure/temperature/battery/fuel) was professionally rebuilt, and the original clock was converted to quartz (works 24/7!). The original Pontiac AM/FM radio and 8-track tape player were fitted from another car, and fully rebuilt. There is a bluetooth connection for the radio, allowing your phone to control music through the two new high-end speakers in the original dash and rear seat positions. The 8-track player works but the sound is distorted (may be the tapes?). A box of period 8-tracks, including the original Pontiac sample tape, come with the car. The electric antenna was removed. The rear seat speaker control does not work, the speaker is always on.
The power windows are original, and power vents, power door locks, and a power seat were added at some point (they are not on the original window sticker). Also added was a tilt wheel, the woodtone sports steering wheel (a reproduction was expertly refinished by the current owner), and some other accessories.
The center console includes the automatic transmission shifter, an optional factory vacuum gauge, and the restored 8-track player. There is a storage compartment and burlwood applique.
The glove box includes an electric trunk release.
RECENT WORK COMPLETED
The engine is strong and power is direct. At some point during previous ownership many changes were made to the electrical system to add power features. During current ownership, the entire electrical system was rewired before restoration of the interior. A new exhaust system was added in 2017, with a new muffler in 2024. The transmission was totally rebuilt in 2023. The radiator was rebuilt, the steering box was replaced, the power steering pump was replaced, and the starter was replaced.
